We mourn the loss of Mark Sieczkarek
We mourn the loss of a fantastic person, a valuable friend, and an extremely talented artist. He passed away on September 8, 2025. He left us in the midst of preparing his exhibition paths through my garden – The Art of Mark Sieczkarek.
Mark Sieczkarek devoted years of his life to Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, creating unforgettable moments in the world premieres of Viktor and Ahnen by Pina Bausch, and bringing his unique presence to iconic works including Arien, Kontakthof, The Rite of Spring, The Seven Deadly Sins, Auf dem Gebirge hat man ein Geschrei gehört and Nelken. His artistry extended to film, appearing in Pina Bausch’s Die Klage der Kaiserin and Ahnen ahnen, before flourishing in his own international career as choreographer, designer and performer.
The exhibition and its accompanying programme were conceived in close collaboration with Mark. Now we continue to nurture this garden in his memory, surrounded by many of his companions. From October the 9th, we invite you to wander these paths through his artistic world – a landscape woven from dance, visual arts, costumes, film, performance, installation, upcycling, music and conversations. We invite you to walk the paths through this ‘garden’ from the 9th of October. Though we can no longer walk alongside him, we carry forward his greatest gift: a boundless capacity for love.
With deep gratitude and enduring affection.
