On Saturday 23.12.2023, 19.30 pm, we present the performance ›The Traces‹ by the Ukrainian dancer Tetiana Znamerovska.

The work is based on the ideas of C.G. Jung about the collective unconscious. Our actions in the present are conditioned by what happened in the past, and our behavior is a mirror of previous generations. The connection with them isn’t limited to memory alone. The performance The Traces is a dance visualization of the piles of psychological trauma caused by historical tragedies. They show how our culture, our social relationships, and our fate can be determined by the past. But it is worth remembering that these imprints can also be the key to changing the scenario of our future.

Members of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and the ensemble supported dance artists in leaving Ukraine when the war began in spring 2022 and finding protection in Wuppertal. In addition to accommodation and support when dealing with authorities, studios have been made available for rehearsals since their arrival and daily training sessions and workshops led by ensemble members have been organized. In this context in 2022 the performance VONA of Rainer Behr together with the performers was realized and is still touring international. Now in continuity the Pina Bausch Zentrum is pleased to enable the performance of The Traces, a choreography by the Ukrainian dancer Tetiana Znamerovska, in the former Schauspielhaus and future Pina Bausch Zentrum. The German premiere is at INSEL | Kultur im ADA.
The performance was created in collaboration with the Contemporary Dance Platform (Ukraine) and The Place (UK), with the support of the British Council, the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, and the Trust for Mutual Understanding (USA).

The sponsors of the performance at Insel| Kultur im Ada and Westdeutsches Tourneetheater Remscheid GMBH are Kulturbüro Wuppertal, Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal, Bergischer Kulturfonds, Verein zur Förderung der Bergischen Heimatkultur e.V. and INSEL e.V. The performance in the Schauspielhaus Wuppertal is supported within in framework of the Projektfonds Ukraine of the Goethe-Institut funded by the German Foreign Office for sustainable resilience building of Ukrainian cultural and educational partners.
