Future Journey

The Transformation Wuppertal initiative is dedicated to sustainable urban development and is supported by Ideaalwerk gGmbH. Its partners include the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Federal Garden Show Wuppertal 2031, the Future Design Academy, and the Wuppertal Institute.

The project aims to strengthen transformative potential in Oberbarmen and Wuppertal by connecting stakeholders, highlighting positive examples, and developing forward-thinking perspectives to actively shape change. It builds on the results and networks of the DAY OF GOOD LIFE project in Oberbarmen, realized in 2023 in cooperation with the Färberei. Existing future initiatives in Oberbarmen and Wichlinghausen will be expanded and reinforced.

Additionally, future workshops are conducted with students, providing them with foundational knowledge about societal transformation. They develop inspiring visions for the future and implement practical plans and measures for their schools, neighborhoods, and the city. At the end of the project, they present and discuss their ideas with policymakers and city officials. Participating schools include Max Planck Realschule, Hauptschule Hügelstraße, Berufskolleg Barmen, and Gymnasium Sedanstraße.

Launched in early 2024, the project will conclude in summer 2025 with a major future-focused event involving students, citizens, policymakers, and the city administration. It is supported by the Foundation for Environment and Development and the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Federal Garden Show Wuppertal 2031 e.V.

A key component of the project is the Future Journey, taking place on 25 February at the Pina Bausch Centre. During this event, students will envision a positive and inspiring future for Wuppertal and select projects that contribute to making this vision a reality. The Future Journey will be led and moderated by the Future Design Academy.
