The forest is highly integrated system – resilient and fragile at the same time. It has survived the ice ages and offers a habitat for countless species. The audio tour :hearing the unknown invites you to go on a mindful walk in the world of trees, fungi, plants and microorganisms. They are in constant dialogue – sometimes across great distances. What does the communication between trees and fungi sound like? What does a branch feel when it is touched? How do plants perceive us? And what role do we play in this ecosystem?

With the help of a biotechnological recording device, electrical signals between trees, fungi and plants are converted into music. By combining it with field recordings of the environment, we create a composition and a story about our forest ecosystems. A voice in your ear will accompany you as you connect with and immerse yourself in this living micro- and macrocosm. We will meet many beings, change our point of view and perhaps also see ourselves with new eyes. The journey takes us from microbial clouds to the treetops, from the forest into outer space. studio s:o:m is a collective for the exploration of sound, meaning and space, founded by Janine Blöß (curator/dramaturg/author) und Tom Förderer (sound designer/media artist/musician).
