The LUX Audience Award is presented every year by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. The award celebrates European cinema and it aims to engage and debate with the larger European public on important societal subjects reflecting our common European values such as democracy, rule of law, pluralism and freedom of expression.
Five films have been shortlisted for the 2025 LUX Audience Award. Voting for the nominated films is open until April 2025. One of the nominees is Intercepted by Oksana Karpovych.
On 24 February, the war in Europe will have been raging for three years. Oksana Karpovych’s documentary Intercepted captures the reality in Ukraine. While the audience sees hopeful images—streets slowly coming back to life—the background audio reveals intercepted phone calls of Russian soldiers speaking with their families. This striking contrast between disinformation, the soldiers’ brutal experiences, and the resilience shown in the footage creates a powerful narrative.
Following the 95-minute documentary, a panel discussion will provide deeper context and reflection on the film’s themes.
