Wed 11.06.25, 18:00
Pina Bausch Centre under construction, Bundesallee 260, Wuppertal
FREE ADMISSION!
The Pina Bausch Centre under construction, continues to open itself up to civil society and reaches out to dance enthusiasts beyond the realm of modern dance. On 11 June, an open-air dance floor will be opened in front of the old theatre, a platform that can be used by everyone, by dancers and fans of all styles from Tango to LindyHop to Salsa to HipHop.
The initial focus will be on Tango Argentino in both its classical and contemporary forms, accompanied by plenty of live music. The opening event on Wednesday, 11 June at 6:00 pm will feature a milonga with a live concert by Tangorra and singer Eliana Sosa. The group is internationally recognised for its modern take on tango, blending bandoneon, violin, and guitar with electronic music. Eliana Sosa, currently one of the most celebrated voices in tango, joins the ensemble for several concerts in Germany, adding her powerful stage presence and expressive vocals. At the Electrotango Festival 2025 in Buenos Aires, Tangorra and Eliana Sosa were among the event’s most popular acts.
There will be six more milonga dates throughout the summer — all on Thursdays: 26 June, 10 July, 24 July, 14 August, 28 August, and 11 September. Most of these evenings will feature live music. Among the confirmed artists are the Fabian Carbone Trio with Wuppertal-based violinist Julia Jech — one of the leading Argentinian-European tango ensembles in Europe — and the trio of singer Lili Gardes from Buenos Aires. The Pina Bausch Centre is organising these milongas in collaboration with the team behind the Tango Festival Rhine-Ruhr (www.tangofestival.rhein-ruhr.com) — Bärbel Rispler, Eugen Neuloh and Geert Böttger.
Admission to the milongas is free, but donations are kindly requested to support the outstanding musicians, DJs and overall organisation.
