D 2023, Director and writer: Wim Wenders
Duration: 93 minutes

Wim Wenders' essayistic portrait film about his longtime friend Anselm Kiefer focuses on two key locations: a region in Barjac, southern France, which Kiefer has transformed into a spectacular, immersive Gesamtkunstwerk since the early 1990s, and a monumental warehouse in a suburb of Paris, where he has lived and worked for several years. Over the course of more than two years, the filmmaker followed the visual artist, connecting the stages of his life with the places where he has worked throughout his five-decade career. Through breathtaking imagery and insightful voiceovers, the film unveils the complex and often controversial work of this iconic artist. The 2D version will be presented!

Between 2012 and 2024, the Films on Art series was held in the glass hall of Café Podest in the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park. In spring 2025, it will now make a guest appearance at the Pina Bausch Centre under construction. Curator Mark Tykwer has three special cinema evenings on the program: the interview film Pina’s Pearls by Wuppertal journalist and filmmaker Anne Linsel about the first and second generation of dancers at Tanztheater Wuppertal (Friday, 31. January), the current light and land art documentary Tracing Light by Thomas Riedelsheimer (Friday, 7. February) and finally Wim Wenders' artistic Anselm Kiefer portrait Anselm – Das Rauschen der Zeit (2D) (Friday, 14. February).
