The dance project Ballroom Bliss will bring together seemingly contrasting dance styles and communities in Wuppertal, Soweto in South Africa and Oulu in northern Finland (Capital of Culture 2026) in 2025 and 2026, creating new (ballroom) spaces as live art works.
In their new piece, deufert&plischke release the spherical people within us, the marvellous primordial creatures that rolled through the world and knew from the beginning that the world is a sphere and that we support each other as a spherical society, like the solar system. Choreography is a dance that resists the constant attempts to level the world and its society!
In a combination of ballroom and live concert, deufert&plischke invite people between the ages of 5 and 99 to immerse themselves in the spheres with all their senses! Ballroom Bliss Wuppertal is the first in a series of happenings by deufert&plischke that focus on dance as a community-building phenomenon with an emphasis on interaction, dialogue and process. The approximately 70-minute evening combines live electronic music with a mixture of stories, encounters and, of course, lots of movement, which is created by everyone together and ends with a celebration. All are welcome, please register any special needs in advance!
