Pina Bausch brought Argentine tango to Wuppertal in the 1980s and turned the region into a hub of the German tango scene. Café Ada and INSEL e.V., Estudio Tango, Café Tango, milongas at die börse, the grand tango balls at the Historische Stadthalle and much more have helped foster a thriving scene. Anyone wishing to dance regularly will find some great options there. Now, with Neotango Landscapes, another dimension and an opportunity to dance are being added. In close collaboration with all other organisers, tango has been back at the Schauspielhaus and the Pina Bausch Centre under construction since 2025.
On Saturday, 11 April 2026, Neotango Landscapes is organising a NEOLONGA at the Pina Bausch Centre under construction, featuring modern tango dance and modern tango music for all tango enthusiasts and those interested in the art form. Neotango Landscapes is an initiative that reconnects culture, special places and tango, thereby creating new, creative dialogues and experiences. Neotango Landscapes realises artistic projects in the form of milongas, journeys and encounters connected with Argentine tango. The focus lies on relationships with landscapes, places and history in connection with one’s own inner dance. In recent years, extraordinary locations have already been brought to life through tango: the Haniel slag heap, the Kluse suspension railway station in Wuppertal and the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen.
Performances brimming with musical and dance poetry are created, in which no one is excluded, free from preconceptions, and full of freedom and respect for oneself and others. Modern tango music – Neo, Non, Nuevo, Electro – provides the impetus and inspiration to bring this to life through dance.
The Neolonga on 11 April begins at 8.30 pm. The music will be provided by the well-known tango DJ Rob Lut from Arnheim.
