Forty years ago, Germany ratified the UN Convention on Women's Rights. To mark this occasion, we are asking how things actually stand with regard to equality and the situation of women in our city. Following a keynote speech on the contents of the Convention on Women's Rights by lawyer Dr Esma Cakir-Ceylan, there will be a panel discussion with audience participation.

On the podium to answer questions: Dr Christelle Beti, gynaecologist and board member of the German-Congolese Institute e.V. and ASHA Congo e.V., Roswitha Bocklage, Head of the Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination Unit of the City of Wuppertal, Bettina Milz, Head of the Pina Bausch Centre in its preliminary phase, Dr Rebekah Rota, Director of the Wuppertal Opera, and Bettina Tyndale from the Wuppertal Women's Shelter. The panel discussion will be moderated by journalist Ulrike Müller.

The intercultural choir Women of Wuppertal (WOW) from the Bergische Music School will perform under the direction of Prof. Hayat Chaoui.

The Wupperfrauen e.V. association will provide information about five important women from Wuppertal who championed women's rights: Alma Kettig, Thekla Landé, Dr Helene Stöcker, Helene Weber and Trude Unruh.
