CERCLES, Boris Charmatz’ new choreographic happening for Wuppertal, welcomes all bodies, all cultures and all generations. It is a score of circular dances, performed by 200 participants aged between 17 and 89, amateurs, dance students and dancers of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

Already in Greek theatre, the stage was round. Choreographers have been interested in the spacial form of the circle for centuries, from ancient times to the present day.

Charmatz takes the circle literally and let his choreography flow into a cycle that leads to ever new endless movements, gestures and folkloric formations.

Who is inside, who is outside? The circle as a cocoon, a raging crowd or a wall of bodies – agile, combative, captivating.

Anyone who likes to move is invited to join the warm up before and the dancefloor with Rebeka Warrior after the performance.
