Kolochi Baw is the result of a research process that Aïda Colmenero Dïaz carried out during her Pina Bausch Fellowship in 2021. It is a vivid reflection on the concepts of time, vibration and sacrifice, and on the process of raising the great achievements of humanity. The work was inspired by the story behind the construction of the Djenné Mosque in Mali, where the piece was created. The Djenné Mosque is the largest brick building in the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Kolochi Baw (in bambara language) means “the guardians”. They are the guardians of time, vibration and sacrifice. The guardians of ancestry in modernity. The guardians of the new era.
