New Ecosystems for the Culture of the Future in NRW

Shrinking resources are changing the conditions in which cultural work takes place. The culture of the future emerges where knowledge, materials and ideas are shared.

Four projects, one common goal: making culture fit for the future. Whether through material cycles for the cultural sector, sustainable stage design using new technologies, transformation within cultural administrations, or collaboratively designed urban spaces – all four projects are seeking answers to the same question: How can we create a culture that enables more future with fewer resources?

We invite cultural practitioners, cultural administrations and cultural policymakers to the Pina Bausch Zentrum in the innovative city of Wuppertal to exchange experiences and initiate new collaborations. In an open panel discussion, cultural practitioners and cultural facilitators will discuss options for the future. The exchange that follows will provide space for networking and discussion around our key questions: How do we share knowledge, materials and responsibility? And how do we preserve what already works while creating what is new?

The following innovation projects will also be presented: Circular.Culture, öKoKom, Zukunftsbühne and Urban Wilderness.

Circular.Culture aims to sustainably promote material cycles in the arts and cultural sector in NRW through a central material depot, regional material-sharing hubs and a digital sharing platform.

Zukunftsbühne explores and tests the development and application of VR technologies, 3D printing and AI to conserve human and ecological resources through process innovation in stage design.

The öKoKom programme of the NRW KULTURsekretariat enables municipal cultural staff to embed ecological sustainability within local cultural sectors.

Urban Wilderness creates temporary green spaces around the Pina Bausch Zentrum and develops them as a public community project together with the people of Wuppertal.

We look forward to welcoming everyone interested on October 12 at the Pina Bausch Zentrum!

Participation is free of charge.
