What does it sound like when a city raises its voice? “1000 Voices” captures the thoughts, feelings, and memories of Wuppertal’s people and weaves them into a collective sound collage..

EXPERIENCE

The art project by the Forum Wupperbogen, led by media artist Horst Konietzny, gives Wuppertal itself a voice.

People from all parts of the city were invited to share their own thoughts, feelings, and inner monologues: anonymously, poetically, raw, spontaneously, or reflectively. These contributions and interviews come together to form a many-voiced chorus. Not a traditional choir, but a web of personal stories and perspectives in which the diversity of the city’s community can be heard. Rather than a conventional performance, audiences can expect an immersive soundscape that will fill the Pina Bausch Zentrum.

From 19:00, the “1000 Voices Salon” continues the evening with an opportunity to come together, exchange ideas, and dance. Building on the experiences of the project, the salon brings them into conversation with other projects and initiatives dedicated to cultural participation in Wuppertal. Together, we explore how art and culture can give visibility to different perspectives and contribute to a diverse urban community and sustainable cultural development.

TAKE PART IN “1000 VOICES”

We are looking for up to 50 people to join the performance and bring the voices of the city to life.

Each participant will receive an individually created soundtrack featuring voices and sounds. The soundtrack will be saved on their own phone and played through a Bluetooth speaker during the performance. This creates a unique emotional encounter between the voices, the audience, and the participants. Unexpected reactions, encounters, and interactions become part of the performance itself.

No previous experience is required, just the desire to be part of this special artistic moment. All you need is a smartphone and your own Bluetooth speaker. A limited number of speakers will be available to borrow.
