You walk through Wuppertal — and suddenly you hear voices. There are thoughts, feelings, inner monologues from people across the city that normally remain unheard. That is exactly the idea behind this project: an urban soundscape shaped by the voices of the people who live here.

We invite you to share your thoughts, feelings, and inner monologues with us — anonymously, openly, poetically, raw, spontaneous, or well thought out. What goes through your mind when you walk through Wuppertal? What moves you, who are you, and what do you wish for?

From many voices, a chorus emerges. Not a chorus in the classical sense, but a vibrating, flowing web of personal expressions — a multi-voiced sound collage that you yourself can later help bring to life.

Under the direction of media artist Horst Konietzny, a soundtrack made from the participants’ inner monologues will be created, making the diversity and inner richness of the city’s residents audible.

Horst Konietzny already realized the audio theatre production Unser Leben ist voller Schall und Raserei (Our Life ist full of Sound and Fury) in Wuppertal in 2022. It was presented as part of the festival under construction, which served as a preparatory program for the Pina Bausch Zentrum at the Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden.

The audio installation was based on extensive conversations with former dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch about their collaboration and creative engagement with Pina Bausch.

Use your smartphone to make a recording and send us your interview, your own voice, or even a sound recording as an audio file via email to: Stimmen@1000Stimmen.de. Please make sure that each recording is no longer than 100 seconds. Also give your file a suitable name so we can review the material more easily.
