We are delighted that the Chair of General Educational Science/Theory of Education, held by Prof. Dr Rita Casale at the Bergischen Universität Wuppertal, is hosting the fourth event of the Colloquium on the Philosophy of Education at the Pina Bausch Centre under construction. The guest speaker is the curator and art historian Prof. Dr Karen van den Berg. Her lecture is entitled Interdisciplinarity in Times of Academic Cannibalism.
Prof. Dr Karen van den Berg studied art history, classical archaeology and Nordic philology in Saarbrücken and Basel. From 1993 to 2003, she worked at the University of Wuppertal (UW/H), where she developed projects such as art in dialog, amongst others. From 2003 to March 2026, she held the Chair of Art Theory and Staging Practice at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, where she had been Academic Director of the artsprogram since 2006. She is currently Endowed Professor of Museum Practice – Theory and Education at Ruhr University Bochum.
To mark the lecture by the former member of staff at Witten/Herdecke University, the event will also serve as the official launch of the externally funded project The History and Future of the Studium Fundamentale at Witten/Herdecke University, which will be opened with a welcome address by the Rector of Bergische Universität Wuppertal (BUW), Birgitta Wolff. The lecture will be followed by a discussion and a champagne reception.
