USA 2023, Director: Amanda Kim
Duration: 109 minutes
Original version with German subtitles

Nam June Paik is undoubtedly the most influential Korean artist of the modern era, yet he receives comparatively little attention outside of art circles. His groundbreaking works were a key impetus for the international breakthrough of media art in the 1960s and 70s. Early on, he envisioned a future in which „everyone will have their own TV channel" – a nod to social media. During the legendary 24-hour happening at the Parnass Gallery in Wuppertal in 1965, Paik's Robot Opera was presented for the first time. Amanda Kim's biopic blends film footage of performances, installations, and appearances with interviews of contemporaries such as John Cage, Marina Abramović, Joseph Beuys, Charlotte Moorman, Bazon Brock, Mary Bauermeister – and Peter Brötzmann.
